UN expert commands JASAGBV

An expert from the United Nations Action Against Sexual and Gender Based Violence (UN-SGBV) has commanded the Journalists Against Sexual and Gender Based Violence (JASAGBV) for the level of SGBV awareness being raised in the country.

According to a JASABGV release issued in Monrovia Dr. Eleand O. Gorman made the commendation Thursday, February 25, when she held talks with the group’s President Lawrence Fahnbulleh at the Headquarters of the Press Union of Liberia (PUL).

Dr. Gorman who is also the UN-SGBV’s Strategist and researcher said, so far, Liberia is the only country that the UN is currently conducting SGBV research in order to gather concrete data on the crime.

She noted that the media has a vital role to play in shaping the destiny of a war ravaged Liberia, especially in the fight against all forms of SGBV in the country, adding, “Your works are being recognized by authorities of the United Nations in New York which indicates that you are actually doing a great work as far as raising awareness for SGBV is concern.”

For his part, the media group President expressed appreciation to the guest for the  recognition in the group’s fight against the dehumanizing crime.
